movie reviews [Aug. 16th, 2006|11:24 am]
watched a lot of movies over the past couple of weeks. have to recap them.

jfk ***1/2 - overwhelming movie to watch. after watching this i was convinced that there was a conspiracy in jfk's murder. the end monolague by kevin was moving and it was nice to see oliver stone in peak performance.

mean girls **** - the high school comedy is back. great feel of high school and great comedy. the scene where lohan daydreams her beating the crap out of the lead plastic and everyone surrounding them and barking like dogs had me LOL. and of course, any movie where the vietnamese language makes a cameo gets and extra half star.

the inside man ***1/2 : great robbery movie with a shawshank like twist at the end but not quite. wish there was more explanation but the spike lee details and setting in new york just did it for me. also, i watched this movie right after dog day afternoon. what are the chances right? both are about bank robberies in new york city. and dog day afternoon had an influence on the inside man. clive owen should have been the next bond.

thank you for not smoking **** - funny comedy. i wish i was nick naylor. did you know that movie did not have any smoking in it at all? amazing. the verbal skills of nick was sick. i was intrigued throughout the whole movie and wanted to see what happened next. katie holmes was a douche in the movie and was treated as such.

birth **1/2: strange movie about reincarnation with nicole kidman. i usually dont like nicole kidman that much and she was boring in this movie as well. i was forced to watch it because it was the only thing that was on on hbo in my viet hotel room. but i watched it. didn't get teh ending but oh well.

dave chapelle's block party ***1/2: movie went slow and was in documentary form but it was awesome because erykah sang love of my life, kanye west was kanye west, it was in nyc, and the fugees reunion made me tear up. plus the whole middle america aspect of it was fascininating. dave chapelle is a saint.

dog day afternoon ****
wow.

wow.

al pacino at his best. i've watched godfather so many times as a restrained michael corleone, it was mind blowing to see him as the crazy sonny. this movie was amazing. a simple story of a bank robbery gone wrong with great great acting by al pacino. this movie was so entertaining and totally held up well over time. i was so freaking lucky they showed this onthe plane.

the comedian ***
i liked this movie because it was interesting to see how jerry seinfield develops a routine. and the scenes of him just kicking back with ray ramano, chris rock, and bill cosby was real cool. it was nice to see jerry act human. i can always dream of being a comedian but after seeing how much work is involved, i think i'll continue to just be a hawthornian.

stuck in singapore [Aug. 16th, 2006|11:08 am]
right after i wrote that last entry, we tried to catch our plane to the US and we were shocked to find out we were suppose to check in an hour earlier and because we did not, we missed our flight.

our feelings soon turned to desperation as they told us that the next flight was tomorrow at 9 am (at the time it was 4 pm) and that that flight, and the afternoon flight at 5 pm were both over booked.

so we decided to sleep at the airport and get on the wait list at 5 am which we did and we succesfully got a flight back home.

Wednesday - Back in Saigon [Aug. 9th, 2006|09:32 am]
I'm happy to not be traveling anymore and back in Saigon. I was able to do last minute shopping and start prepping for my trip home.

my collection of north face back packs. by far the best deal in vietnam. these are mostly for my family. the next time i'll be able to buy more for friends.
